The Mediator: Reunion by Meg Cabot

Description:

The RLS Angels are out for blood, and only Suze can stop them—since she's the only one who can see them. The four ghostly teenagers died in a terrible car accident, for which they blame Suze's classmate Michael ... and they'll stop at nothing until he's joined them in the realm of the dead.

As Suze desperately fends off each attempt on Michael's life, she finds she can relate to the Angels' fury. Because their deaths turn out not to have been accidental at all. And their killer is only too willing to strike again (from Goodreads).

My Thoughts:

This is the third book in the Mediator series; it was a good read but it took me along time to read it. I’ve been sick for the last week or so and when I am sick I go into a reading slump. When I started feeling better I picked up on my reading.

This was enjoyable read, it was cute and funny; the book starts off with Suze’s friend Gina, who comes for a visit. I liked Gina, she was interesting character and very good friend to Suze. I am kind of glad that we actually get to meet Gina, because up to now she was only being mentioned in the passing.  The actual storyline was alright, actually it was interesting but it could have been more. There could have been more action, more mystery to it; to quickly we find out who the killer is and that kind of takes away from the story, at least for me.

Then there is Suze who again tries to save the day. I kind of have this love hate relationship with her. She annoys me, her behaviour and the way she talks about her brothers, I mean step-brothers. I think that I have said this in previous reviews of book one and two, she tries very hard to behave as a mature individual, when in fact she is not. But on other hand I like her, I just can not make up my mind about her.

Overall, I did enjoy the story even with its shortcomings, it was a fun read. I kind of have this feeling that my love/hate relationship will continue throughout rest of the series, oh well.

I give this book 4 STARS out of 5 STARS.

The Hunter's Moon (The Chronicles of Faerie, #1) by O. R. Melling

Description:

The Hunter's Moon, follows two cousins, Gwen and Findabhair, as they backpack around Ireland in search of the country's magical past. When she arrives in Ireland to visit her cousin Findabhair, American Gwen expects a fun backpacking trip to sites of the fairy lore they're both fascinated with. What neither cousin knows is that it's the summer of the Hunter's Moon, a dangerous time for mortals to meddle in the kingdom of Faerie. The girls camp out, and deep in the night Finn is kidnapped by the handsome Faerie king! In Gwen's quest to save her cousin, across beautifully evoked settings of modern-day and mystical Ireland, the spunky heroine's biggest challenge may be convincing Finn she needs to be saved!" (from Goodreads).

My Thoughts:

This books has been sitting on my shelf for few years now. Well actually when I first bought this book couple of years ago, I bought the four in one book; man the book is huge, I do not know what I was thinking when I bought it. It so heavy that you can not hold it your hands and read, but rather you have to set it down. So few months ago I decided to reorder the books, each book individually.

So when I received the copy of the book in the series I read it right away. Actually this is a reread for me, but still I enjoyed it very much. I mean its about faeries in Ireland. It about adventure, friendship, love, and faeries. Characters are beautifully constructed and developed, they are likeable and you feel for them.

My favourite character Findabhair, I just love her name, it is such a beautiful name. Even though the book is not written from her point of view, she was my favourite. I just loved how free spirited she is, kind, and generous. I also enjoyed the other characters as well, such as Gwen who is the main character, however with her I did not feel that connection that I felt with Findbhair. Faeries in the book are well developed and their history well described but the author does not reveal everything a lot of it remains hidden, Author takes a lot from traditional Irish faerie stories and incorporates it into her own story. She did a good job, like I already said faeries do not take over the story. They are in the background, but they are always there.

Overall this was very good book. If you like reading about faeries, leaning towards the traditional Irish stories than you probably will like this book. It has adventure, friendship, love story, mystery; pretty much it has everything that good story needs. Actually this book is the first in The Chronicles of faerie, there are four books in the series and I already got all of them.

I give this book 5 STARS out of 5 STARS.

Bad Girls don't die by Katie Alender

Description:

Alexis thought she led a typically dysfunctional high school existence. Dysfunctional like her parents' marriage; her doll-crazy twelve-year-old sister, Kasey; and even her own anti-social, anti-cheerleader attitude.

When a family fight results in some tearful sisterly bonding, Alexis realizes that her life is creeping from dysfunction into danger. Kasey is acting stranger than ever: her blue eyes go green sometimes; she uses old-fashioned language; and she even loses track of chunks of time, claiming to know nothing about her strange behavior. Their old house is changing, too. Doors open and close by themselves; water boils on the unlit stove; and an unplugged air conditioner turns the house cold enough to see their breath in.

Alexis wants to think that it's all in her head, but soon, what she liked to think of as silly parlor tricks are becoming life-threatening--to her, her family, and to her budding relationship with the class president. Alexis knows she's the only person who can stop Kasey -- but what if that green-eyed girl isn't even Kasey anymore (from Goodreads)?

My Thoughts:

This book was excellent, it had everything that I like in ghost stories. It was creepy, mysterious, smart heroin, little bit of romance, and many other things.

I received this book as a gift from a family member who knows how much I enjoy reading ghost stories. So I put it on the shelf and waited till I was in right kind of mood to read it. So, last weekend we had thunder storm and rain and lighting, perfect weather for a ghost story.

I have to say that it did take me few chapters to get into the story. At first I was not sure if I was going to like it, but after few chapters things started to pick up and it was great read. Alexis is teenage girl in high school and she is a misfit, she has pink hair and she does not fit in, she is always on the sidelines. She has a younger sister, Kasey, who has this weird obsession with dolls. Strange things start to happen at home and with her sister Kasey, she starts acting weird and talking weird. Alexis starts to investigate and tries to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Characters in this book are well developed and thought out. Kasey character is creepy and as the story progresses she jus gets creepier and scary; while Alexis character is likeable and down to earth. She cares about her sister and tries to help her. Alexis also makes some friends and one friend that she meets the person she thought she hated. Also, she meets a boy, Carter, whom she likes and is interested in. One thing that I liked about this story is the fact that the author did not really involve Carter into the ghost part of the story, but rather it was just Alexis trying to solve the mystery.

Overall, this book was excellent, it has a creepy ghost, house that has a lot of unknown history and suspense. If you like stories about ghosts, little bit of suspense, teen drama and romance than you will probably enjoy this book. Author did a very good job, if I may say so. Book was well written and there was never a dull moment. There are enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat, even though you have already figured where the story is going. Happy reading.

I give this book 4 STARS out of 5 STARS.

The Mediator: Ninth Key by Meg Cabot

Description:

Everything is going great for Suze. Her new life in California is a whirlwind of parties and excellent hair days. Tad Beaumont, the hottest boy in town, has even asked Suze out on her very first date. Suze is so excited that she's willing to ignore her misgivings about Tad... particularly the fact that he's not Jesse, whose ghostly status--not to mention apparent disinterest in her--make him unattainable.

What Suze can#146;t ignore, however, is the ghost of a murdered woman whose death seems directly connected to dark secrets hidden in none other than Tad Beaumont's past (from Goodreads).

My Thoughts:

I very much enjoyed the second book in The Mediator series, it was a awesome read.

Suzie tries to solve a mystery of the ghost that shows up in her bedroom demanding that she tells Red that it is not his fault. Suzie sets out to investigates and stumbles upon something that she did not expect.

I have this love hate relationship with Suzie; she is a very good character, she is smart and caring and she possesses many other characteristics that we like in heroines. But she has this annoying side; I wish that she would just stop and listen for once. Sometimes I feel when people talk to her it is like talking to a wall, she acts like she knows everything. Having confidence is nice and all but being too confident is not good thing either. The reason I have this love hater relationship with Suzie is I like her one moment and next I want to shake her because she annoys me.

The plot of the book was interesting and there was a lot of mystery but nothing that you do not as a reader figure out ahead time. Also, there is more romance in this book and Suzie has another boy she is interested in. But what I really liked is the interaction between Jesse and Suzie, we still do not find out much about Jesse, but the relationship between the two of them starting to grow.

I really like the Suzie’s youngest step-brother, whom she calls Doc. He is such a funny character; I especially liked his speech about the effectiveness of condoms over the supper if front of his siblings and parents. It was the funniest scene in the whole book.

Overall, this was very good book, it was well written and characters were entertaining. There was mystery to be solved, there is romance and ghosts. Meg Cabot certainly knows how to keep her audience entertained.

I give this book 4 STARS out of 5 STARS.
