Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey

Description:

On Solange’s sixteenth birthday, she is going to wake up dead. As if that’s not bad enough, she also has to outwit her seven overprotective older brothers, avoid the politics involved with being the only daughter born to an ancient vampire dynasty, and elude Kieran Black—agent of an anti-vampire league who is searching for his father’s killer and is intent on staking Solange and her entire family.

Luckily she has her own secret weapon—her human best friend Lucy—who is willing to defend Solange’s right to a normal life, whether she’s being smothered by her well-intentioned brothers or abducted by a power-hungry queen. Two unlikely alliances are formed in a race to save Solange’s eternal life—Lucy and Solange’s brother Nicholas, and Solange and Kieran Black—in a dual romance that is guaranteed to jump start any romance-lover’s heart (from Goodreads).

My Thoughts:

I love this book, I had such fun reading it. It was interesting, fun and romantic. This is another vampire romance novel, somewhat different from Twilight, but not by much.

What I really liked was that each chapter was narrated by different persons, in this case Lucy and Solange . Lucy and Solange are best friends, have been so from childhood.
Both of them are such interesting and lovable characters, they draw you into the story because you want to know what happens next.
I have to say that Lucy was my favourite, she was so funny and interesting character, she is smart, brave, spunky and you can not help but like her.
I liked Solange as well, but I found her somewhat naïve. I did not think that she took treat on her life seriously and some of the decisions that she made were stupid. But I do know why she made them.

I like the romance that was going on, between Lucy and Nicholas, but I wanted more. It was very well written and romantic, but I wish that there was more. I felt that author spend more time establishing the myth and history behind the vampires existence, and it took the story away from the main characters.

Overall this read was interesting and fun, and I am looking forward to the second book in Drake Chronicles.

I will give this book 4 Stars out of Stars
